Where Do Those Breakthrough Moments Happen?

The ancient Greeks called them “Muses”. The Romans rebranded them as “The Camenae”.

Both were credited to be the fountainhead of inspiration. Where artists and writers suddenly got their “a-ha!” moments from.

It can be a persuasive argument – particularly when listening to a piece of music that has the power to connect emotionally and actually move you.

Sometimes you could think that a bloke from an ordinary background with a cheap guitar must have had a bit of divine help to write that amazing classic!

On the other hand, maybe we do ourselves down by not accepting that it is we that have these powers right inside us – without any half dressed young Greeks visiting us and sprinkling glitter on us (or whatever they did).

But what about other forms of inspiration?

If you are reading this, it means that you are somehow pursuing an online income.

Whether you are a beginner, someone who is in growth or someone who is making a massive income, you are ploughing your own furrow.

There are basic systems and frameworks that bring results but it’s that “spark” that makes something stand out. It’s the moment of inspiration that changes something. Big and small.

I had one this week. I was annoyed that I was trying to do something that should have been easy but turned out to be bloody hard. Then I had an “a-ha!” moment that gave me a different approach that cut out loads of steps.

Can we encourage these breakthrough moments?

Well, I have found that I mostly get mine in three situations;

When I have woken up in the morning but still in bed hovering between sleep and full-on morning engagement. This is a particularly fertile inspiration time for me. I think my brain is more free to see things differently and is more receptive.

Another place is in the shower. I have no idea why things come to me then.

Also, when speaking to someone in the same “space” about what I am doing – My mind often forms new connections and bouncing stuff around makes other possibilities bubble to the surface.

Actually…This last one is the difference between having a “coach” and having a “mentor”.

A coach will instruct you in a method (their method) and expect you to do it – even if you don’t enjoy it much.

A mentor will tease out new routes, ideas and improvements with what you are doing.

And we can, again, thank the ancient Greeks for that. Mentor was an old man who provided Odysseus’ son with guidance when he really needed it (Spoiler: Mentor was actually the goddess Athena in disguise).

So, wherever you get your inspiration moments – recognise those places or times and be receptive to them. You may come up with an improved way to increase opt-in conversions – or you could come up with a killer guitar riff.

Either way, you’ll be dashing to the computer or the guitar to actually transfer it from the seed into reality.
