My goodness… Happy GDPR day!
I woke up this morning in the EU half expecting to find that the internet had disappeared.
I have not been very vocal about GDPR. But a lot of other folks are either getting their panties in a bunch or are trying to suck some money out of you to make you “compliant in a click” or whatever they promise on the sales page.
I had no plans to join in the cacophony of GDPR noise but I have been asked by a number of people so I figured I needed to make a comment.
By the way… Nothing here should be construed as legal advice. I am not a lawyer and, if you want to find out exactly what your business needs to do to be GDPR compliant then you should do your own due dilligance and/or contact a legal professional for their opinion.
I decided to make a video of a few GDPR ramblings…

GDPR’s impact is similar to a cultural revolution – based around data rather than bombs and bullets. As with any change there will be those that embrace the underpinning philosophy and those that do not, Those that refuse to adapt will not evolve. They will probably become extinct. Those who embrace change will survive and possibly thrive.
GDPR is one manifestation of the EU “experiment”, born of the wish to avoid war. So far it has led to an epoch of peace and (relative) prosperity in that part of the world. History will judge – but it may be that it will show the Regulation as a turning point for the world/mankind as a whole.
Great video Barry! Was good to hear what the regulator actually said and put things into perspective for me. I think the phrase “harm based regulator” was key and if we’re all sensible about how we conduct our business, doing the stuff you mentioned in the video, shouldn’t be any issues. 🙂
